Make some basic checks to make sure your seams match on both sides at the waistline, under arm, top of shoulder. If they don't match significantly you may need to slip the toile (fancy French word for pattern) back onto the person and check them on the body.

Remove the pins from the side seam only. Lay out your toile as above with the shoulder seams still pinned together.

Here you want to drawn the lines of your pattern, correct any wiggly lines, check the underarm seams are straight across and do not cut down low…

You will also be drawing the front of the bodice - check your costume notes for whether it is a pointy bodice or a straight bodice.

You will also draw the neckline. This pattern has a square neckline in front and a V at the back. Again, check your costume notes for directions on what type of neckline is in fashion for the year.

Failure to follow the notes will mean the bodice is rejected at the costume check you will be sent back to do it again!

Take a deep breath and cut along the chalked lines.
