Rosemary's Kentwell Newbie later 1500's (post 1550) Bodice

This is a beginner's guide to basic pattern draping, primarily for those who have volunteered to be participants at Kentwell Hall's Great Annual Re-Creation. But anyone wanting to learn pattern cutting will find this tutorial useful.

What we are making here is the basic late Tudor bodice, "Rosemary Stylie." It is a two piece pattern, laid out and sewn in a very specific way. This is a method we know works and works for literally hundreds of women every year and will stand up to daily and weekly wear for 8-10 hours per day and still be comfortable and keep it's shape - in rain, wind, baking heat and cold nights. That is an awful lot to ask of a piece of clothing, and that is what we are making; clothing as opposed to costumes.

This is actually a lot easier than it looks! BUT! If any Kentwell participants find they get stumped, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to the list of local helpers that you would have been given upon acceptance and CALL FOR HELP! That's why our names have been given to you! But please not at 3am…

Onto the guide!
